First Retro Night of the Season Plus a Giveaway!

We’re trilled to offer our first retro film night of the season on Tuesday, May 7th. Our screen Two will be showing; Grease, the Sing-a-long version with the co-hit American Graffiti.

We’ve waited a long time to be able to play movies other than the ones we booked that are current releases. We plan to have one more retro night in May. Tuesday, May 14th will be the second play date and we have not confirmed the movies yet, but we will announce them here as soon as we know.

There will be something for everyone come August when we go into full swing with our retro film offerings. Until then, will all the big summer movies being released we’re unable to get permission from the film companies to “cut them out” of a nights movie take. The film companies take about 80% of our box office gross for the first run movies, so we would not be given the great summer box office smashes if we told them one night a week we were not going to play their film :(

Here’s a short list of the summer films we’ll likely be showing.
May 3rd: Iron Man 3. May 17th: Star Trek Into Darkness. May 24th: Epic. May 31st: After Earth. June 14th: Man of Steel. June 21st: Monsters University. July 3rd: The Lone Ranger and Despicable Me 2. July 12th Turbo and Pacific Rim. July 26th: The Wolverine. August 9th: Elysium and Planes.

It’s a big summer line up as usual and we always look forward to providing our customers with a great summer of entertainment. So what summer “blockbuster” are you most looking forward to? Leave your comment here for a chance to win two admission tickets and a snackbar popcorn combo deal. Submissions must be posted by Midnight Tuesday, April 30th.
See you at the movies!

Epic and the lone ranger with my son! Going here is one of our favorite summer memories, love that you are still doing a drive-in and can’t wait to go to a retro night!

  15. Denise

Love the retro nights! Have you every explored the idea of a dusk-till-dawn showing, like all the Lethal Weapons, or all the Back to the Future or all (some) of the Die Hard franchise?

    • Snackbarqueen Snackbarqueen

Denise, our one concern over the “all-nighters” is our neighbors. We try to be respectful of them and that is one of the reasons we don’t play the 1st movie over again. In August we will play all the Star Wars and all the Back to the Future series and possible the Indiana Jones series during our retro night programs. If the weather holds out Retro Nights will play into September.

  16. Kim Wetzsteon

STAR TREK all the way, cannot wait for the new movie!!! Trekkies unite!

Oh man! It looks like my free evenings will be filled seeing all those long-awaited movies at the drive-in! Many of those will be fantastic to see on the truly big screen.

The ones I’m looking forward to the most will be Iron Man 3 and Star Trek.

Thanks for the past 20 years!! They have been great. I hope you are still open when my kids have children of there own!!

    • Snackbarqueen Snackbarqueen

Bryan, how long will that be? My sons, 19 and 21 have threatened to put me in the mental ward if I ever sell, so you’ll probably get your wish :-D

  24. Kevin Anders

Looking forward to Star Trek “Into Darkness”, will be coming 300 miles to see it under the stars!

  25. rebecca

Please please please get some Hitchcock for retro movie nights in August! Also perhaps a classic horror movie like Rosemary’s Baby or The Exorcist!

  26. GT

I just wanted to say that my wife and I appreciate you keeping the drive-in tradition alive. We loved it as kids & teenagers & young adults. Now we are teaching our kids to love it too!

We don’t get out to the drive-ins much for non-kid movies, but we’ve been out 3 to 4 times per summer for kid movie weekends. It’s a 60 mile trip for us, but it’s such a good time.

When I was a kid back in the 70′s I can remember some drive-ins doing a sort of ‘retro night’ with older Disney classics. It’s where I first saw Bambi, Peter Pan, Bed Knobs & Broomsticks, etc.

Wonder if you could fill all week if you skipped the latest releases and did an entire retro week? We can’t really do mid-week, but if you did a kids retro on a Saturday we’d be there regardless of what was showing. I can remember seeing Peter Pan at a drive-in upstate NY and they had characters in costumes running around.

Oh, and once I hit Powerball, please be prepared for some competition about 60 miles south as I plan to open a new drive-in of my own. Hard part is hitting Powerball of course. We’ll be around to assist you with some upgrades if that happens someday. Maybe take care of your lakes problem and build you a playground for the kids to play in while waiting for the movies.

Good chance you’ll see us out your way for Epic, M. U., Despicable Me, Turbo, Smurfs, & Planes this summer. Love to see Superman but I’m not sure a 7 and\or 3 year old are ready for that yet.

GT, thanks so much for all the input. And, Yes! We really want to do a retro kids weekend. We’re just waiting for the summer movies to slow down and we may turn Screen 2 into our “Retro all the time screen”! We’re looking forward to seeing how the retro nights do these next two weeks. We’ve talked about playgrounds for years but our insurance carrier won’t handle the liability. We’ve shopped around but it’s about as expensive as the liability we pay now, and that runs $23,000 a year. It’s a shame really, because we’d love to put one in.
Say hello when you’re in this summer, enjoy the movies and keep me posted on the Powerball deal :O
